10 Minutes With Jean Michel Boujon
Online Marketing Manager
Jean Michel Boujon
Even in recession, executive jobs are still strong. I liken a corporation in recession to a tree in the winter.
Jean-Michele is the Online Marketing Manager for The Ladders, which provides jobseekers with the very best £50k+ jobs. Jean-Michele, has done a lot of traveling and has lived and worked in many countries including France, USA, and the UK. He would have loved to be a Journalist and would try eating anything.
Q. You are the online marketing manager for The Ladders, can you tell us a little more about your role?
My job is based around 3 major goals. Number 1 is "Acquisition". The goal is to have £50k+ jobseekers visit the site. This is all about managing the marketing budget across various channels (SEM, Online ads, Affiliates, SEO, Partnership, PR, TV.) and make sure that we get the best ROI from each vendors and the best quality jobseekers. Number 2 is "Conversion" The goal is to get jobseekers who visit the site to post their CV and apply to Jobs. We use sophisticated tools such as Multivariable test, focus group and metrics analysis to understand our users' behavior and eventually tweak our product to offer them the best experience. Finally number 3 is "Brand Building". Building the brand is an important part of my job. There are a lot of job boards in the UK. It is crucial to stand out the crowd with a clear value proposition.
Q. Has there been a noticeable decrease in the number of highly paid jobs on the UK site, since the recession started in Europe?
R: Even in recession, executive jobs are still strong. I liken a corporation in recession to a tree in the winter. The tree trunk is the CEO, the big branches are the VPs, small branches are Directors and Managers and leaves are staff members. When it gets cold (recession), the tree loses its leaves and some of its small branches but the big branches and the trunk won't suffer as much as the leaves.
Q. Do you have any insiders tips for job seekers looking for a £50k+ job?
Executive jobs seekers need to own their job. They need to multiply the channels to source jobs. They need to use an approach that mixes job boards, recruiters and networking.
Q. You went to Nottingham University as a European Exchange Student from France, to study for a Masters in International Marketing, so how did you end up in New York?
IN 2004, just before I graduated from business school, I went to New-York for an internship. This internship became a job and I worked for websites such as easyroommate.com and vivastreet.com. I eventually join TheLadders in 2007 and moved to London in 2008 to launch the UK site. I spend most of my time between London, New-York and other European countries where TheLadders is looking to expend.
Q. What is your favourite thing about working and living in New York?
R. New-York is an amazing city. The best online entrepreneurs are there. It is very stimulating. You end up thinking a different way and finally come up with great ideas. It is a very rich environment People work hard and play hard. It gives a great vibe to the city. It is a lot of fun.
Q. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
R. Journalist / Reporter.
Q. The Ladders.co.uk won the award for best new comer and you collected the award. How did you feel?
The team worked very hard to get this project off the ground. We managed to become the #1 destination for Executive jobs in the UK after a year in business. It is great to be recognized by our peers.
Q. Who is your favourite actor or actress?

Q. What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?(being French I imagine that is an easy question)
